Kakhi: Privacy Policy & Terms

What stays on your phone

• Your learning: the words you save, your flashcards and review history, your watch history, daily goal, streak and settings.
• Where it's stored: only on your device. It isn't sent to us, and there are no accounts.
• Backups: Android may include it in your own device backup, if you have that turned on.
• Kakhi's voice: the recordings are built into the app, so tapping a word sends nothing anywhere.

What third parties receive

• YouTube (Google). Videos play in YouTube's embedded player. YouTube receives what any embedded player sends: your IP address, device and browser details, and cookies, under Google's Privacy Policy. By watching you agree to YouTube's Terms of Service.
• Google AdMob (free version only). Free users see a sponsored page in the feed now and then, and rewarded ads they choose to watch. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, your approximate location (from your IP address), app interactions and diagnostics, to show and measure ads. See how Google uses data from partner apps. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you're asked for consent first, and you can change it any time in Me → Privacy choices (ads). You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings. Premium and trial users see no ads, and the ad SDK isn't started for them.
• Google Play. Purchases and subscriptions go through Google Play Billing. We never see your payment details.

What we receive

Nothing automatically. We only get what you send us yourself, for example a "Report a mistake" email from the app. It contains the subtitle line and the app version, and you see it before you press Send.

The iPhone waitlist. If you leave your email address on plyerstudios.com/kakhi to hear when Kakhi is on iPhone, we store that address, which app it is for and when you signed up. We use it for exactly one thing: one email when the iPhone version is out. After that email the whole list is deleted (Cloudflare's automatic database backups expire within 30 days). No newsletter, no ads, and we never sell or share it. Only Plyer Studios can read the list: the website can only add to it. To stop spam we also keep a salted, one-way hash of your network (IP) address for one day, then it is erased. The list is stored on Cloudflare, the host of our website lanlanchinese.com (a Cloudflare D1 database), and we send the email ourselves, with no mailing service.

Children

Kakhi is not directed at children under 13.

Deleting your data

Uninstall the app, or clear its storage in Android settings. To delete an email you sent us, or to take your address off the iPhone waitlist, write to plyerstudios@gmail.com.

Terms of use

• YouTube's terms apply. Videos play in YouTube's player, so by using Kakhi you agree to YouTube's Terms of Service. Videos belong to their creators; owners can ask for removal on the video removal page.
• Premium. Watching is free. Kakhi Premium is a subscription (monthly or yearly, with a 7-day free trial) or a one-time lifetime purchase, through Google Play. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel; cancel any time in Google Play before the trial or period ends to avoid the next charge. Refunds follow Google Play's policy.
• Learning aid, as is. Subtitles, translations and word notes are checked by a machine before they ship, but can contain mistakes: please report them with "Report a mistake". Kakhi is provided as is, without warranties, as far as the law allows.
• Fair use of the app. Don't copy Kakhi's subtitles or recordings out of the app, or try to get around Premium.
